Historical Legacy
Named after Penny Pinneo, the first nurse who attended to the first Lassa fever patient and survivor in the world. The first Lassa fever patient, a missionary in Lassa town in present-day Borno state, was flown to then ECWA Evangel Hospital (now Bingham University Teaching Hospital).
In 2020, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) built this state-of-the-art facility to improve the management of Lassa fever, COVID-19, and other infectious diseases. The centre currently manages a variety of infectious diseases with cutting-edge technology and expert medical teams.
